Bonn, Germany

For a short spell, Bonn, Germany, was once the Capital of Western Germany and then the temporary capital of united Germany until only about 15 years ago.  The city is so charming and quaint that is is difficult to imagine it was once the capital of a country in the midst of turmoil and unification.   Bonn is also the birthplace of Beethoven and the University of Bonn, one of the largest Universities in Germany.  Seeing students sprawled out studying on the University lawn reminded me of a scene not so different from the Grove in Oxford.Bonn (3) Bonn (4) Bonn (8) Bonn (10) Bonn (11) Bonn (16) Bonn (28)

We were about a week too early, but these cherry trees burst into bloom creating one of the most incredible sites.  Shops along the street were selling images of the flowery pink tree tunnel
